Here's the Stuckness...

Most Capable Women:

  • Are operating from belief and behaviour patterns which were set in early childhood to survive the home, school, social, and societal systems they grew up in

  • Have a need to be liked and accepted at all costs which is running their life for them

  • Feel they need to be ‘happy’ all the time and deem their more uncomfortable emotions to be ‘unacceptable’ so they push them down and ignore them

  • Are striving to be ‘high energy’ & ‘productive’ all the time which simply isn’t sustainable or natural

  • Have a ridiculously strong Inner Critic with little to no voice of Self-Compassion

  • Measure their worth by what they’ve done as opposed to feeling inherently worthy for who they are

I’m the Founder of  Riding White Horses

the Creator of  The Art of Becoming & Belonging.

As a recovering Capable Woman, I’ve been where you are!

Up until I was about thirty years old, my chronic need to be liked and accepted at all costs was running my life for me.

​I struggled to say 'no', I had no idea what a boundary was, I was 'shoulding' all over myself incessantly, I prioritised the needs of others over my own, and spoke to myself so viciously I would never have dared speak to anyone else like it.

​I was anxious, regularly suffered with severe stomach cramps, frequently got sore throats/colds/coughs, and felt tired all the time. I had no idea how to handle any of the uncomfortable emotions I was forever stuffing down inside of me.

I hit rock bottom in 2014/2015 when I fell into a deep depression. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to discover who I actually am, what lights me up, and how I can move through times of adversity with more grace and ease.

I’ve trained as an Embodied Life Coach, an Equine Facilitated Learning Practitioner, and a Women’s Cycle Guide. I’ve read more books than you can imagine and regularly attend supplementary trainings, coaching, and psychotherapy.

 

The Art of Becoming & Belonging not only contains all the information I’ve received from my formal training, but my own knowledge gained through consistently looking back at and reflecting on my own life.

Everything I’ve ever experienced has contributed to where I am today and the same goes for you too!


The innate personal power and freedom that comes from fully understanding and accepting yourself is undeniable! 

Creating a deep self-awareness of who you are and where you’re at is the first step. 

And so, my Foundational Self-Discovery Programme Becoming Aware was born...

Everything has a place at the table. Nothing is ‘too much’ or ‘too big’ to bring.

I define trauma as anything that was too overwhelming for you to process at the time and so it got stuck in your system. This can be something like a car accident, sexual assault(s), or a parent/carer/teacher yelling at you when you were small.

For the 1:1 and Group programme options I'll be jumping on a call with you EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK.

I’m very aware of my own limitations in terms of time and energy. I struggled to say 'no', I had no idea what a boundary was, I was 'shoulding' all over myself incessantly, I prioritised the needs of others over my own, and spoke to myself so viciously I would never have dared speak to anyone else like it.

I had no idea how to handle any of the uncomfortable emotions I was forever stuffing down inside of me.

In attempts to liberate myself from this internal whirlpool of unprocessed emotion and low self-worth, I tried running away by travelling and moving house a lot, and I would distract/numb myself with booze, drugs, sex, food - all under the guise of living 'wild & free' of course.


But wherever you go, there you are! And continually chasing highs inevitably means the lows will catch up to you.

From the outside looking in I was confident, outgoing, capable, and living my best life! And in some ways, I was...

BUT...

Nobody could see how furiously I was paddling just trying to keep my head above the increasingly turbulent waters of my inner world. And heaven forbid I actually let on to anybody that I was struggling in case my 'Capable Woman' status became jeopardised...

In fact, I was SO good at wearing the mask of capability, I even had myself fooled! I mean, I'd been performing capability and confidence outwardly whilst feeling internally 'not good enough' for my whole life. I was an absolute pro!

I was constantly pushing myself out into the world, out of my comfort zone, outwards with my time & effort. All this energy going OUT and never feeling it come back IN.

Depression hit. Or, more accurately, burnout & emptiness. I simply couldn't do it any more. I had no energy left. And thus began my path to TRUE liberation and sovereignty - wild & free from the inside out.

It is now my life's work to support the liberation process of fellow Capable Women.

The Capable Woman is exactly that - capable.

She is the adult version of the Good Girl.

She shows up; she gets shit done; she is smiley, polite, kind, empathetic.

From the outside looking in she appears happy. She's easy to be around, isn't any trouble, and doesn't like to make a fuss.

Go a little deeper and she is paddling furiously, trying to keep herself afloat.

She often feels like she is drowning in a sea of responsibility and obligation.

She longs to be liked and accepted, so she pleases people by doing as they ask, at considerable cost to her own experience. This breeds an underlying sense of resentment, which she then feels guilty about.

She has often completely lost touch with who she actually is, she's spent so long doing all the things she 'should' do.

She cycles through periods where she's super busy, on top, keeping up with all her many commitments, and then inevitably ends up becoming run down, poorly, injured, burnt out, or depressed.

She holds herself to impossibly high standards and criticises herself relentlessly when she can't meet them.

Where she has compassion for others, she lacks compassion for herself.
Where she shows up and is supportive of those around her, she has forgotten how to support herself.

Dear Capable Woman,

I see you!

I see you being weighed down by the burden of your responsibilities and obligations.

I see you trapped behind the bars of your cage made from beliefs of how you think you 'should' be.

I see you scrambling to be a good mum, a good worker, a good partner, a good friend, a good daughter, and feeling like you're no good at all.

I see you feeling overwhelmed by life, like you're on a runaway train, hurtling towards an unknown destination, powerless to do anything to stop it, knowing that, inevitably, it will crash. It always does.

What if I told you it didn't have to be this way?
